Business Speaker’s Series -
Challenges to Progress: The Future of the Capital Region's Economy
On January 24, 2008, the Sacramento State
Alumni Association and the Business Chapter hosted a Breakfast Club
event featuring Ron Trujillo, the editor of the Sacramento Business
Journal, at the alumni center at Sacramento State. The Alumni
Association has sponsored Breakfast Club events in the past, but this
was the first time the Business Chapter co-sponsored a Breakfast Club
event. Paul Finn (US Postal Service), Business Chapter board member and
chair of the Business Speaker Series Committee, was the catalyst for
this event. He suggested the partnership for the Breakfast Club event
and obtained the speaker. The discussion topic for the event was
"Challenges to Progress: The Future of the Capital Region's
Economy." The event was a tremendous success, the room was packed
and the audience had many interesting questions about the direction of
Sacramento economy. In his address, Mr. Trujillo discussed the local
real estate market and noted that this is not the first time local
prices have dropped. He shared that local housing prices are once again
looking like a bargain and he expects the drop to flatten out within the
next year to eighteen months as buyers from more expensive housing
markets discover the value the Capitol city has to offer. Mr. Trujillo
also shared his insights about the commercial real estate market, public
transportation, the Sacramento airport, levees and flood control, the
Sacramento Kings arena, and the future of the Rail Yard project among
other hot local topics. You may listen to Ron Trujillo's daily business
report on Capitol Public Radio. Please visit our chapter website for
information about our next business speaker event and other events
sponsored by the Business Chapter.
